Why I Started Trip Topp
Hi, I'm Breno. Welcome to Trip Topp.
For most of my adult life, home was somewhere I passed through between flights. My work took me all over the world, year after year: Southeast Asia, Europe, the Americas and plenty of places in between. I lost count of the airport lounges, the 3am connections and the hotel rooms that all started to look the same.
Somewhere along the way, travel stopped being part of my job and became part of who I am. When I had time off, I'd go back to the same places, this time with my family, just for the joy of it.
All those years on the road taught me something simple: the right gear makes a trip easier, and the wrong gear makes it miserable. I've had zips burst at baggage claim, adapters that didn't fit the wall, and bags that looked great in the shop and fell apart by week two. I've also found a handful of things I'd never travel without.
The day everything changed
In May 2025, I had surgery for a brain tumour.
Recovery changed a lot. The long trips that had shaped my working life for so many years weren't possible anymore, and for a while the world felt a lot smaller.
But I still had everything travel had taught me. I still knew what works on the road and what ends up forgotten in a hotel drawer. And I still loved it.
So I started Trip Topp from home in Perth. It's how I stay close to travel while I can't be out there as much, and it's how I look after my family in a chapter of life none of us planned for.
Giving back
A portion of the profit from every sale goes to brain tumour and brain injury research. This one is personal. I know how much a diagnosis like that turns a family's life upside down, and I want every order placed here to help another family get better answers than we had.
How I choose what we sell
Before anything goes on the store, it has to pass four questions:
- Does it fix a real travel problem? Not a gimmick, but something that genuinely makes a flight, a hotel stay or a day out easier.
- Will it last the whole trip? Zips, seams, straps and materials need to survive real travel, not just look good on a shelf.
- Would I still use it after the first trip? If it would end up at the back of a cupboard, it doesn't make the cut.
- Is the price fair for Australians? We compare against what you'd pay in Australian shops, and we don't charge extra for a fancy logo.
If a product ticks all four boxes, it earns a place. If it doesn't, I'd rather leave it out.
